Position- Vice President of Talent Management, Boston

LOCUST WALK IS LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED AND DYNAMIC VP OF TALENT MANAGEMENT TO JOIN OUR TEAM

You will develop the first full-time human resources role after we graduated from a part time position.  As a team of one, he/she must think strategically but also roll up his/her sleeves and execute.  We need someone who can join the leadership team and together help scale the business globally

A week in the life for this role

This role will work closely with the Managing Partner and will own the strategy and oversight for the HR function for the firm with a primary focus on talent management and training, recruiting, and culture building.  The blocking and tackling of policies and procedures and benefits administration is an important part of the job but of lower value relative to the strategic nature of the position.  As we continue to grow, so will our complexity on an international basis.  On a given week, this person might create a new associate training program, go on campus to recruit our next analyst class, create a handbook for the Japan office, triage an issue between employees or monitor the new coaching program.  This person will also focus on improving and systematizing the firm’s processes.

What is our culture?

We have a high-performance culture that rewards creative solutions to daily challenges. Locust Walk offers a good work-life balance within the context of a transaction focused professional services firm. We are all in the office during business hours daily unless traveling but also value our family and friends making our time with them a priority. We have weekly happy hours as a team called Locust Walk Café and occasional outings like F1 racing and kayaking. All our team members enjoy the ride!

Key career background and experience for this position

  • This person needs to live the Locust Walk values. We’re looking for a high-integrity individual who is committed to the success of others and is open and courageous in their communications.  A poised professional who is creative with an entrepreneurial spirit.  He/she must have a positive attitude and enjoy the ride.
  • Experience in the professional services industry. We operate in an environment like other professional service firms such as investment banks and management consulting firms. Experiences in these or similar organizations will provide you with a good understanding of how we operate, best practices, and learnings you can contribute to our organization.  Someone who has helped scale a similar company will be highly valued.
  • Small firm experience. We’re a small organization of 30+ people in five locations on three continents.  While experience in larger corporate frameworks will be valuable in bringing additional systems, organization and consistency into our firm, an understanding and experience in a smaller growth environment is important for success.
  • Passion for operational excellence. Whether dealing with other members of the leadership team, hiring, human resources issues, health and benefits selection and ongoing management or other similar activities, this person needs to have 3 things:
    • Passion for the role of growing the firm with the company culture,
    • Desire to create structure and systems that are “suitable weight” to our size, and
    • Curiosity, an innate drive to figure out “how things work”

Prior positions of responsibility that might be good experience for this role?

Five years or more of strategic human resources experience is a prerequisite.  We’re not looking for someone to just administer benefits.  If you held one of the below positions of responsibility, you might have generated the knowledge required to be successful in this role.  However, this does not mean that if you haven’t had any of the titles below, you’re not qualified:

  • VP of Human Resources
  • Director of HR (someone ready for the big promotion)

In one word, how might you describe the position?

“Partner” because this is the person who partners with each person in the organization to help them achieve their highest potential and enables the culture to flourish
