Associate, Strategy & Analytics, Boston

A week in the life for this role?

The focus for the associate is to play a key role in leading the firm’s engagements and to participate in practice development activities. Our engagements range from business development, M&A transactions, and financings to corporate strategy, commercial assessments, and valuation analysis.  The associate is responsible for leading execution and overseeing deliverables and analysis generated by analysts, identifying and managing discussions with clients, and supporting deal negotiations and closing. They synthesize in-depth primary and secondary research into persuasive insights to support deal executions and negotiations.  The associate is often tasked with managing all aspects of the day-to-day execution of a client engagement, including leading update calls with the client and overseeing all aspects of the analyst’s work.  Practice development activities, including participation at conferences and networking events and building relationships with industry peers and prospective clients, are essential to furthering our growth.  An associate will help with pitch materials and prepare thought pieces for our marketing materials.  Our senior team deal is dedicated to the professional growth of our associates.  Each engagement provides a new learning opportunity.

  • Experience in the professional services industry. We operate in a similar transaction environment to investment banks and management consulting firms. Experience in these areas will provide you with an understanding of how we operate, best practices, and learnings you can contribute to our organization.  While not a requirement, such experience is helpful.  The candidate must be able to demonstrate the following set of skills:
    • Ability to lead project teams, drive strategic recommendations, and act as primary client contact for Strategy & Analytics engagements
    • Solid understanding of financial modelling, including full P&L and DCF; with ability to lead trainings on modeling and large database analysis
    • Strong life sciences corporate strategy experience, including: new opportunity prioritization; partnering and M&A strategy; business development and transaction support; asset forecasting and valuation; portfolio management; and commercialization strategy
    • Experience in multiple life sciences sectors, including biopharma, medical devices, diagnostics, and Health IT, is a plus
    • Strong communication skills and comfort presenting in front of company management, Boards of Directors, and speaking directly with physicians and other key opinion leaders
    • Excellent written and presentation development skills, with ability to offer training in PowerPoint a plus
    • Either a proven track record of working with and managing teams or relevant leadership skills that demonstrate an ability to do so successfully

    • Passion for biopharma and/or medtech transactions: 3 – 5 years of relevant industry experience
    • Successful track record working in the life sciences consulting or corporate BD experience: working directly on leading and executing commercial assessments
    • First-rate education: strong academic track record; MBA preferred; an advanced degree in life sciences is also a plus

Event Manager, Boston

LOCUST WALK IS LOOKING FOR A DYNAMIC AND CREATIVE EVENT MANAGER TO JOIN OUR TEAM

BioBreak is a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect the life science ecosystem.  It holds members-only networking events where biotech, pharma, medtech, diagnostic and investor executives build relationships, source transactions, and learn about other companies in their area.  BioBreak also runs the CBO Forum which connects Chief Business Officers for life science companies in content rich discussions.  BioBreak also runs the Family Office BioForum, which is an exclusive opportunity for high net worth investors and family offices to engage in a substantive conversation about investing in the Life Sciences.  We also recently formed a women’s networking group call SWITCH.  This person will play a key role in the growth of the Company by organizing and executing various events to create buzz and a high value brand.

A week in the life for this role? 

The focus for this role is to drive attendance and sponsorship for our existing events and to expand the scope of the organization nationally and internationally to other life science hubs.  The logistics behind organizing each event is also a critical part of the job and will play an important role during day-to-day activities.  This person will support the Board’s efforts to effectively build connections in the life science community.  He or she will work closely with the Board Members and/or Regional Organizers and will be responsible for the organization and the execution of the events.  

A typical week’s work might include any of the following—reaching out to new and existing sponsors to expand their support, organize our regional and national events including marketing, sponsorship agreements, budgeting, event logistics, nametags and check-in, helping to expand to new regions, and help with website revamp.

  • Experience in event planning.  The organization is fundamentally events driven and we need someone who has great attention to detail in producing high quality events.  Experiences in these or similar roles will provide you with a good understanding of how we operate, best practices, and learnings you can contribute to our organization.  Individuals with marketing and basic knowledge of accounting experience would also be a good fit.  Examples of things needed to be a successful event planner include: 
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with regional partners 
  • Manage existing and develop new sponsor relationships

  • Small firm experience.  We’re a small organization that has many regions but limited resources.  While experience in larger corporate frameworks will be valuable in bringing additional expertise into our organization, an understanding and experience in a smaller environment with knowledge of how to scale is helpful for success.  This is a “company of one” for now so personal responsibility is essential. 
  • Passion for building relationships. Whether dealing with potential members or sponsors, external service providers or internal team members, this person needs to have 3 things: 
  • Passion for the role, the life science industry, people and performance. Is self-motivated, positive and able to work and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively screens, identifies, and conducts outreach to potential biopharma and medtech clients in the US, Europe, and Asia
  • Collaborates closely with the Associate Director of Marketing to drive lead generation results surrounding thought leadership, conference activities, and prospecting
  • Provides support to Senior Deal Team members in their marketing and sales outreach efforts around various types of campaigns including conferences, white papers, and email blasts
  • Executes outreach campaigns to book 1-1 meetings for Senior Deal Team members participating in partnering and other industry conferences across the globe
  • Executes lead generation campaigns surrounding content marketing initiatives, and collaborates with Associate Director of Marketing on lead follow-up automation
  • Executes various components of an outreach campaign, such as sending meeting invites by email or through a web-based conference partnering system, and prepping Deal Team members with their final schedule
  • Creates end-of-campaign appointment grids including a list of meetings booked, dates and times of appointment, meeting attendees, meeting locations, notes, and other relevant information
  • Documents and records outreach campaign activities in the CRM
  • Provides ongoing analytics on the success of inside sales programs
  • Maintains the accuracy of the CRM to keep marketing and contact lists up to date
  • Provides support for lead generation follow-up activities and execution of campaign action items
  • Supports Locust Walk conference efforts as directed, some travel to conferences might be required

  • Logistics:
    • Ensure that systems are operational in conjunction with IT support; coordinate such support as appropriate
