Our History & Name
Locust Walk was founded September 15, 2008, the day that Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy at the height of the 2008 financial crisis. With many investment banks struggling and focused on survival, Locust Walk was born with a different mission: to champion and drive innovative biopharma solutions to market.
At the time, Geoff Meyerson, Locust Walk’s CEO and Co-Founder, was living in Philadelphia, PA, having recently graduated with his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. The firm’s name, Locust Walk, is the main pedestrian pathway on the Penn campus, which serves as the central spine connecting students, faculty, and ideas. Just as the pathway links the university community, Locust Walk was founded to connect innovative biopharma breakthroughs with the resources and expertise needed to bring them to market.
